At the Blue Door
After penning his previous collection The Lane and Other Poems, Wilson remains ensconced in his Hocking Place residence – known locally as ‘the Lane’ – while compiling this new selection. Though soon he will graduate from this phase of life, the Lane has proven a fecund wellspring of experiences and inspiration. Wilson is not yet ready to depart from this creative oasis. As he explains: ‘One guy we knew well once told me, ‘I do like to drink at the Blue Doors,’ as if our very doorstep was his favourite pub. The name stuck, and now it graces this book’s cover as well.’

J. White’s Thoughts and Obsessions is a masterful tour de force of poetic writing that covers both the personal and the universal truths of the human condition. In Bored, White concisely touches on the mundanity of our daily existence in a way rarely seen with other contemporary poets, whilst still retaining an element of light humour. And in Thank You My Friend, White’s neoteric exploration of the importance of our closest friendships is most deftly, and beautifully conveyed. Other poems in the collection range in scope from hope, faith, love, personal identity, through to our closest relationships and romance.

In Thomas’s Taverne Crunch Cove Eunice P. England relates a dramatic story of murder, wrecking and smuggling off the coast in ancient times before the lighthouses of today. In the era of sail, it is a story told in dialect and rhyme. This epic poem occupies half of the book, whilst the rest is taken up with poetry, some of which demonstrate Eunice P England’s love of wordplay.

The World and All Its Wonder
Why are we the only planet with life in a vast universe? How did we come to be here, a world so unique, so full of natural wonders, so full of amazing creatures that exist side by side, supporting the whole eco system so perfectly? Surely, we are the guardians of this amazing world, perhaps we all have a purpose, a reason for being here. It is such a pity that so many of us do not see this amazing world but see only what we want to see. These poems take people on a journey of exploration. They look at all the unexplained theories of how the world and the people who live here came into being.

The Lone Wanderer and Other Poems
Fred Herman's sparse, plaintive poems concern both the innocence and ecstasy of love, but a hint of mortality always lurks at the edges. Herman is in a reflective mood in this collection, invoking figures from his past and drawing on the romantic yet lonely imagery of the sea.The directness of his delivery is startling and beautiful in equal measure.

The Ghost at Birkbeck Station and Other Terse Verse
In The Ghost at Birbeck Station Janet Ambrose offers a collection of poems formed by her early years in WWII, her life in politics and her life with dogs (amongst other things). The poetry views the world through a humorous lens, even the eponymous poem which relates an unnerving tale of contact with a ‘ghost' offers comic relief through a trick of light. There are doodlebugs and leaky dogs and run-ins with local authority. And there is an analysis of the Thatcher years from the perspective of one who was not too enamoured by the social contribution of the Iron Lady.

Slightly Salty
Along with frequent visits to the sea, this eclectic collection of poems by Colin Newnham features animals (both real and imaginary), historical events and the odd self-portrait. The poems are illustrated with charming simplicity by the author himself.'You can find out about the Arty Guffles and meet a Drizard, there are some comments by Dolphins and even Rats in space. An All Amphibian Band and a Snail hitchhiking to France will make you smile, Polar Bears and Giraffes, Newts and Gannets can be found and a pecker knocker is a creature new to science and makes an interesting adornment to your front door.'From Colin Newnham's Introduction

Regaining Life's Winding Trail
Dr Henry Disney’s Regaining Life’s Winding Trail is, in the author’s own words, ‘a rambling set of anecdotes and poetic reflections on (his) unusual life’. He begins life as a shy child relishing in nature’s gifts. After a successful stint in the army, Disney pursues his love of natural history to become a research entomologist. His work takes him to places around the world, young family and loving wife in tow. He becomes a respected and accomplished scientist with a vast number of publications. He undertakes his work with such zeal that he surely earns the title ‘the king of scuttle flies’.Where others fail, Disney’s scientific knowledge and strong faith live harmoniously side by side. Disney’s use of poetry and the collection of his poems included in this autobiographical musing bridge the supposed gulf between science and the arts.

Planet Earth
When I was four years old, the family went on holiday to Blue Anchor Bay in Devon and I can never forget being mesmerised by the sun slowly sinking into the sea. I was filled with awe and had the feeling that the sun was smiling at me. In later years, I just could not believe that it all happened by accident; but must have been created. Science has revealed what an extraordinary world we live in and how we are all caught up in its continuing evolution. We are all in some way responsible for the future of the world, not just for the sake of our children but also for the future of the world itself.
